Land and Us - Future Ritual
“Land and Us–Future Ritual” is a new, full-length piece blending dance, music, storytelling and installation art co-created by immigrant and refugee artists under the leadership of Dohee Lee. ”Land and Us” explores vital land-human connections in Asian mythology and ancestor practices, the harm caused by disrupting these, and the complex hope of seeking refuge in a new place. Through wearable art, music and choreography, Dohee will embody nature deities from her home culture of Jeju Island, Korea, who guide audiences through a narrative grounded in the five elements. The script and ensemble choreography will incorporate arts traditions and stories from project collaborators, including Asian immigrants/refugees community. A participatory, future-looking ritual for healing concludes the piece.

Asian Refugees United (ARU) is a grassroots arts and healing organization serving Asian immigrant and refugee communities impacted by displacement. Dohee has worked with ARU since 2016, helping to design and lead education programs in healing modalities for emerging young adult artists. “Land and Us” core ensemble members will primarily be members of ARU programs, including QTViệt Café Collective, a creative hub for 100+ Queer and Trans Việt community members, and Nepali-speaking Bhutanese “Storytellers” in Pennsylvania.
